Description:

1946 ERF C15 diesel 4x2 wooden dropside lorry Reg. No. EDL 172 Serial No. 4057 Fitted with a Gardner 5LW diesel engine, a copy of the vehicle register sheet shows EDL 172 was also fitted with a streamline cab and 40gallon fuel tank. EDL 172 has a well recorded history having been sold new to C.B Yates & Sons, Merston on 4th September 1946, which apparently was the first diesel engined lorry to be sold on the Isle-of-White. The lorry was then sold to a Mr Barry Halford of Totton Diesel Co, Totton, Southampton, where he converted it to a breakdown lorry and ran it on the companies trade plates (106 CG). It was subsequently sold to Southampton Road Transport consisting of Meachers Transport and Cormicks Transport, who returned the lorry to it's original registration number. Finally it was sold to a Mr C Russet of Cadnam, Southampton where it was sadly burnt out. From there it was purchased, restored and recommissioned back to a dropside body. It then ended up in the Jack Richards Collection where it was restored again in 2013 into the grey and red livery. Offered for sale with V5C, history file and a restoration image board. Estimate £20,000 - £25,000
